Business Update – from your Advisory Council

Advisory Counsel

What is working out in the field? What is getting results? We asked members of your Advisory Council what is working in their region. Here are some of the updates they shared with us.

Gary Deter

We continue to reach out to Building Officials with offers to educate them and make them more aware of codes involving Elevator Hoistway Protection against smoke migration. This has turned up a number of projects where we are able to insert Total Door Systems as a solution for code compliance.

Jeff Addis

Using the new Construction Connect system that Jack Robbins and Candace Kitchen have put in place, we have been able to reach out to code officials in our territory.  It lets us offer them a solution for their buildings to meet the fire codes as required by their local laws.

Also, following up with the individual attendees from Jack Robbins’s national AEC Daily live webinars has opened the doors to putting on Lunch and Learn presentations for their entire firm.

Peter Elliott

We have been scheduling AIA CES presentations as online webinars focusing on the Smoke Containment presentation for a number of individual firms and recently presented to the Denver Chapter of CSI as part of their education program for members and guests.

We have also found the Construction Connect leads to be effective in connecting with the architects and have scheduled another AIA CES presentation as a result of one of the project leads.

The more you know… your code.

the more you know header

Most of our life safety conversations begin with an explanation of what the code requires. To support those conversations, we are planning an expansion of the “Know Your Code” section of our website. It will deliver more in-depth information that embodies the words “We’re the experts, so that you don’t have to be.”

This expanded section will have more product specific information. It will also map out how Total Door’s labeling, with code-specific information, is unique in our marketplace.

The Know Your Code page currently has a short list of need-to-know requirements related to elevator lobbies and door testing, including code-specific information for IBC and ASME, that can be downloaded. Here are the code sheets available now:

  • UL 1784 – Standards for Air Leakage Tests
  • IBC 3006.2.1 – Standards for Corridors Adjacent to Hoistway Openings
  • ASME A 17.1 – Standards for Additional Doors on Hoistway Openings

Lights, Camera … Here’s your sneak peek of SafeFrame’s close up!

We recently shot video and still photos of our new SafeFrame™ product in our corporate showroom. We think you’ll agree – it’s definitely going to turn heads!
