Check the Frame for Plumb
and Level
View Steps
Step 1: Use a 72” level to confirm the frame and stop are plumb
Start on the hinge side jamb, then check the hinge stop
Then repeat on the latch side
Step 2: Switch to a shorter level and make sure the head of the frame is perfectly level
Removing the Hinge Housing and Hinge Block
View Steps
Step 3: Using a 5-in-1 tool, remove the hinge block from the hinge housing.
Avoid using a screwdriver, as it can deform the hinge block.
Step 4: Take out the hinge housing from the door.
- Pro tip
Using a screwdriver for this task can damage the hinge block. A 5-in-1 tool prevents this from happening.
Installing the Spacer on Hinge Housing and Hinge Housing
View Steps
Step 5: Install the head stop spacer onto the hing housing positioning it opposite the hanger rod cutout.
Step 6: Place the hinge housing in position. The spacer will server as your guide from the head stop of the frame.
Step 7: Use the thickness of your key to align the hinge housing with the head of the frame.
Step 8: Secure a screw into the center of the top slot on the hinge housing.
Step 9: Grab your 72” level again to make sure the hinge housing is plumb.
Step 10: Place a screw in the center of the bottom slot on the hinge housing.
Step 11: Fasten the middle screw on the hinge housing. Double-check the hinge is plumb with your level.
Installing the Hanger Rod
View Steps
Step 12: Hook the hanger rod into the cutout at the top of the hinge housing.
Step 13: Position the door in front of the frame, keeping the hinge side near the frame jamb.
Step 14: Tilt the door and hook the other end of the hanger rod into the door’s cutout.
Lower the door gently until it’s supported by the hanger rod.
Step 15: Lift the door slightly by the latch side.
Don’t pull the door more than 6” out of the opening and guide the hinge into the hinge housing.
Step 16: Hold the door steady and move around to the push side.
Step 17: Push the door almost closed. Press lightly with your foot at the bottom hinge to ensure it’s fully engaged.
Step 18: Install temporary hinge blocks at both the top and bottom of the hinge housing.
Check Tolerances
View Steps
Step 19: If the locking channel is not already in the latch position, press the retainer and rotate the locking channel by hand until it latches.
Step 20: Go to the pull side and close the door.
Step 21: Use the key to check the retainer’s tolerance.
The key’s thickness is your “go”– while 1/4” would be a “no go.”
Step 22: Check the latch side reveal with the key. 5/32” is your minimum “go.” And 7/16” is a “no go.”
Installing the Hinge Housing Screws and Hinge Block
View Steps
Step 24: Now fasten the remaining hinge housing screws, beginning with the top round hole. You should have at least 15 screws total.
Step 25: Take your 5-in-1 tool to remove the top temporary hinge block.
Step 26: Insert the top of the full-height hinge block into the hinge housing and tap it gently with a mallet to snap it into place.
Step 27: Use the same 5-in-1 tool to remove the bottom temporary hinge block.
Step 28: Insert the rest of the full hinge block into the hinge housing and use a rubber mallet to secure it.
Step 29: Open and close the door to ensure it swings freely.
Installing the Latch Stop
View Steps
Step 30: Place the latch stop against the frame, with its small holes toward the frame.
The top of the latch stop should be flush with the head of the frame.
Use the 7/8” notch on your key to keep the latch stop correctly spaced form the head stop.
Step 31: Fasten the top latch stop screw.
Step 32: From the push side, close the door until it meets the latch stop.
Step 33: Align the latch stop with the locking channel so there’s no gap along its length. Hold the latch stop at the bottom.
Step 34: Install the bottom latch stop screw. You can open the door slightly if you need extra space.
Step 35: Again, use the locking channel to keep the latch stop flush. This time, hold it in the middle.
Step 36: Fasten the screw in the middle of the latch stop. If necessary, open the door for more room.
Step 37: Turn the locking channel to the unlatched position by using the mechanism.
Close the door to verify it latches with minimal effort.
Step 38: Install the remaining latch stop screws.
Step 39: Close the door from the push side.
Step 40: Push on the door body from the push side to confirm it has latched correctly.
Step 41: Use the mechanism to open the door.
Step 42: Go to the pull side and close the door.
Step 43: Open it again with the mechanism and install all latch stop hole plugs.
Step 44: Check that the door latches and unlatches freely without any interference between the locking channel and latch stop.
TDC 96P Closer Installation:
View Steps
Step 45: Open the door just enough reach the closer comfortably.
Step 46: With a 3mm Allen wrench, turn both valves clockwise to close them, start with the “120°– 0° valve, then the “7°–0°” valve.
Step 47: Check the marking on the closer arm: An “R” should face up for right hand, left reverse doors, and for left hand, right reverse doors, flip over the arm.
Step 48: Position the arm at roughly a 45° angle. Pull it about 1/8 of a turn toward the latch edge.
The spindle begins on a square and ends on a diamond.
Step 49: Remove and reinstall the closer arm at approximately 90° angle to the door.
Then rotate the arm toward the door to finalize the preload.
Step 50: Secure the arm with a washer and screw using a 5/32” Allen wrench.
Make sure the screw head is flush with the washer.
Step 51: Slowly turn the “120°–0°” valve counterclockwise with your 3mm Allen wrench.
The arm will extend to close the door.
Step 52: Install the closer track slider.
Step 53: Position the closer track, leaving about 4” of clearance between the closer track slider and the track’s end on the frame side.
Step 54: Use a 12” level to confirm the closer arm and track are level.
Step 55: Fasten two screws at the top ends of the closer track.
Step 56: Open the door to test if the closer arm glides freely.
Step 57: Install the remaining closer track screws.
Step 58: Open the door again to check if the closer arm slides without restriction.
Step 59: Adjust the closer speed. The “7°–0° valve is for latch speed, and “120°–0°” controls swing speed.
Aim for a door that closes in about 6 to 9 seconds from 90°.
Step 60: Open the door again to test your adjustments.
Step 61: Your Single Door installation is now finished!
